What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis is occasion when liver is inflamed by different reasons.
Hepatitis is a condition where the liver is inflamed due to viral infections, and is caused by hepatitis viruses (acute), toxic substances such as alcohol and autoimmune diseases (chronic). There are 5 main types of hepatitis viruses: A, B, C, D and E, in which all these can spread epidemically and cause deaths in extreme cases. Types B and C are particularly chronic and are the most well-known cause of cancer and liver cirrhosis. These viruses, along with type D normally occur after parenteral contact with infected bodily fluids such as contaminated blood. In such case involves invasive medical procedures using contaminated equipment, and this can be transmitted from mother to baby at birth and also by sexual contact.
So what is the difference amongst the hepatitis viruses?
Whilst some HAV infections could be severe and life threatening, most cases are mild and people become fully recovered and remain immune from further infections. HAV is usually transmitted through ingestion of contaminated water or food and also certain sex practices. Thus, it is common in developing countries, where there is poor sanitation and hygiene, as well as a lack of access to safe water. Hepatitis A is acute hepatitis which shows symptoms rapidly shown and sometimes it causes no problem or even might be cured by own immune system. However if it is left long, it might lead to cirrhosis
HBV and HCV are transmitted through exposure to body fluids such as blood and semen. Infected mother can pass on HBV to an infant at birth, or from family member to infant in the early stage of childhood. It may also occur through transfusions of contaminated blood and through .
However for hepatitis B main cause of infection was through fertility when mother gives birth. But through vaccination for infants, the rate of hepatitis B infection has decreased in significant amount, due to that fact, hepatitis C is rising as the most concerning hepatitis. Since both of them are chronic hepatitis, It is hard to find infections until the symptoms get really severe. So when severe symptoms are shown, it is already late to prevent from going to next stage which is cirrhosis which usually lead to liver failure or hepatocellular carcinoma. When hepatitis is found earlier before its final stage, it is hard to cure it however we can slow down the rate of spread by injecting anti viral drugs and enhancing our immune system
Symptoms of hepatitis might be as such:
Jaundice - As liver fail to filter and get rid of bilirubin in our blood
/fever
/nausea
/vomiting
/upper abdomen pain.
